THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT PROCESS IS AS FOLLOWS:

Sent by email on the 4th November 2019.

The term of office for the Board of Management of Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh has ended. As chairperson, I wish to thank the current board for their hard work over their four year term. The primary goal of a board of management is to ensure that the school is managed in a manner that provides all of its pupils with the best possible education.

A board constitutes eight members who, on a voluntary basis, ensure the school is governed appropriately.

More information on the role of a board can be found here.

The appointment procedures of a new board are contained in the link above also.

You, as a parent / guardian of a child enrolled in the school, are entitled under the Education Act 1998 to put your name or that of another parent forward for a four year term on the board. Legislation states that there should be one male parent and one female parent on a school’s board.

A meeting for parents will be held in the school on 14th November at 7.30pm. At that meeting, there will be a secret ballot to select two parent nominees for membership of the board. All parents at that meeting are entitled to vote. Parents may nominate themselves or another parent to the male panel or the female panel. Each nomination must be seconded by another parent at that meeting.

If there is only one nominee for each panel, no vote is required.

The full selection process is contained on pages 58 – 59 on the link above.

I would ask that any parents intending to put a name forward (either their own or that of another parent) reply to this email with their nomination so that ballot papers can be prepared insofar as is possible and nominees can be informed. Names will also be taken at the meeting and added to the ballot papers then.

An independent teller and Peace Commissioner will be present to ensure transparency at the meeting.

I thank you for taking the time to read this notification.

Le meas,

Michael McCarthy

Chairperson, BOM
