Personal Hygiene

With the increase in vomiting bug and flu virus at the moment, the school is asking that parents be vigilant and not send children to school if they are unwell.

We all know how important personal hygiene is, especially in relation to hand-washing after using the bathroom and before eating.

With the H1N1 virus currently moving across Ireland we feel it is important to ask parents to remind their children about using good hand-washing techniques.

We would urge parents to provide their children with a small wash bag which can be kept in their school bag containing a facecloth which can be used to dry hands after washing. This little cloth will need to be washed regularly and should only be used by that child (no sharing of towels).

Liquid soap is available in all school bathrooms. Hand sanitisers can be used at parents’ discretion.

For older children – girls from 5th and 6th class in particular – pads and disposable wipes are available in all the older pupils’ bathrooms. If your child is in 4th class and has already started their period please let the class teacher know and the same facilities will be made available.
