In February while learning about biodiversity in  Science the pupils in Mrs O’Sullivan’s class in  Coisceim B agreed they would like to make a safe space for minibeasts to shelter, lays their eggs and hide from predators.

So, the idea of a bug hotel was born.

We were so lucky to have Paula our SNA supply the frame which was made from recycled material.

We then set about collecting lots of natural items to fill our bug hotel.

We went to Whitepoint strand and gathered stones, shells, seaweed and driftwood and carried some very heavy bags back to school!!

We also gathered bamboo, old broken terracotta pots, pine cones, and old piping

Some of the boys put chicken wire at the front of it to stop the stones and shells falling out.

We wrote all about the project in English.

We all signed our names on the bug Hotel and Pat our caretaker brought it out to the garden.

We are so proud of our Bug Hotel

We regularly check on it to see how many visitors we have!
