BOOK FAIR
Our Annual Book Fair will take place from 16th -19th October.
The fair will be open for Infants accompanied by an adult each day from 1.30-2.00 pm.
There will be a session for all other children from 2.30-3.30 each day after school, Tuesday to Friday inclusive. Parents, guardians welcome!
We hope that as many people as possible will make it to the Book Fair to browse the books and hopefully to buy one. The school will get 60% commission on everything we sell. This commission will be used to supplement / replace library books in our amazing school library.
There will be a raffle again this year which will be run by our fantastic Library Committee.
Thanks in advance to all the parents and staff members who will help run the fair. We couldn’t do it without you!
Wednesday 17th October will be a dressing up day. Children (and staff) can come to school dressed as their favourite book character.
LIBRARY RULES
• Each child can take one book out of the library at a time.
• The book must be returned after two weeks.
• If your child has not finished the book they can scan it back into the system and scan it back out for another two weeks only.
• Your child will not be allowed to take another book out if they have not returned and scanned the book they currently have on loan.
• If a book is damaged slightly we would ask parents to help your child repair it.
• If a book is damaged beyond repair or lost there will be a fine of €10
• Your child will be unable to take a library book out if the fine is not paid.
It is important that children learn to respect books and handle them with care. Children from 3rd to 6th are allowed to scan books out and take them home.
We would ask parents to encourage their child to read, to read to your child and to let your child see you read. It’s very important that your child is reading appropriate material, something that’s not too easy or too difficult.
Parents can easily monitor this by asking your child to read an excerpt to you. Discuss the library book with your child and encourage them to ask for help/explanation for more challenging vocabulary.
Development of vocabulary is crucial to good reading skills and can only be achieved with regular reading and discussion.
